A long time friend finally got the “go ahead” from the missus to purchase an appropriate handgun for personal protection in the home. She acknowledged the old .22 LR Derringer won’t cut it.
Same ol’ story: I introduced him to a series of semi-automatics and revolvers. Discussions concerning shotguns and rifles were brief. I provided an overview of Cooper’s four safety rules, and started him off with the Ruger 22/45 to assess if he understood the general concepts of sight picture, and alignment. His background as a football coach allowed me to gloss over proper foot position and stance. He also shot the GLOCK 19, Les Baer TRS 1911, Ruger LCR, and Taurus M85. Based on his experience, it’s likely he will begin his search with a full sized pistol. He preferred the 1911 and Ruger 22/45, but wouldn’t mind the GLOCK if the pistol grip were slightly longer. It’s likely that a GLOCK 17 may also fit his needs.
His first shots, since 20 years ago, went really well and he appeared to understand the concepts without an issue. I advised him to bring his wife next time, so they both can make a decision on what firearm will best suit their needs.
It was a great time all around and hope to have him at the range again with a new gun, or his wife, soon. Preferably both, shooting down range learning about the awesomeness of firearm ownership.
Who is the hottie?
She is spouse of the gentleman standing in the background.
Always good to hear about new shooters …
