Reflection on Progress

Almost three years ago, I wrote this post on a new job.  If anyone were to ask me if I was overly optimistic during my first few months, I would have said, “Hell yes.”  Nonetheless, I have a new level of appreciation for a vulnerable population of society; people who don’t or no longer have legal capacity.

I was fortunate to be among colleagues who offered personal and professional guidance; who made all the difference in the world.  With their support, I managed to take in the good with the bad, and leave knowing I made a positive impact on people’s lives.  The hardest aspect was sorting through sibling rivalry with a dependent adult in the middle.  Interacting with mentally disabled adults whose happiness were derived from chocolate milk, summer camp, and love, was more fulfilling.

Through this employer, my professional growth was fostered, allowing me to embrace new opportunities to affect the bigger picture.  This next step isn’t my end game, it’s progress.  Based on my interview with my new employer, this is yet another “step toward a career and new opportunities that will reveal itself over time.”

Today was my first day; I celebrated by picking up two off-roster firearms [courtesy of my father], and beer that is being litigated by Alan Gura, defender of civil rights.

Flying Dog's Raging Bitch, Kel-Tec P-3AT and Ruger LCR .357 Magnum.

Everything else will follow in life, as usual.

    Lucky bastard! /not

(In the sense that you’re neither a bastard, nor finding yourself in your current situation through something so happenstance as luck. Congrats!)
