On his way to Boomershoot 2011, David at RNS came by to drop off The Beast for me to play with for an upcoming review. I knew he had Orville A. Bierkle’s gun with him, so I wanted to take a look at his serendipitous find. It’s quite a story.
Chambered for .45 ACP, the Smith & Wesson Model 1917 was purchased by David a couple years back. Though he knew he had a Marine’s sidearm, no one really knew who he was until the Marine’s daughter found David’s thread on Calguns.
You should really check out David’s posts about this unique piece of history. It was quite an honor to see it in person.
