Hanging out with a Certified Dog Trainer

Taking on the responsibility for the care of a dog should be a serious matter.  When I worked at a pet store, ignoring the incessant barking and cleaning up the puddles of piss was normal.  Can’t blame the pets, though.

As much as my employer encouraged training, few sought it.  They knew better, or their dog was just… their dog.  Many were content with their pup.

Though I know better, there’s still this normalcy when I see dogs misbehaving.  So when I see a well-behaving dog…

“OMFGWTFBBQ.  Does your dog speak English!?”

Been thinking about a Blue Heeler, myself.  They’re resilient, active, and receptive to training.  To understand what I should expect as a dog owner, I’ve been speaking with Maile of Mutt Mindset for the past year.  She’s a certified dog trainer based in the Pacific Northwest and just getting started with her business venture.  She certainly knows animals, especially dogs, and how to go about establishing the connection between humans and their companion.

Following a conference in San Diego, she stopped by Sacramento to say, “Hello.”  She was really looking forward to shooting the Ruger LCR I reviewed a few weeks back, but it was in the CA Cool Down Tank.  Despite this, we went to the LGS and had a good time with a Ruger 22/45, S&W Mod. 63, Les Baer TRS, GLOCK 19, and a .22 AR15.

Though Maile only shot a gun once, she’s a damn good shot!

She has her very own Packing Rat, now.

I tried to get video of her with her dogs, but it was rather dark.  Here’s a video with her and Fawkes showing Cesar Millan a magic trick, instead.

Every new business would benefit from a business card, yes?

If you’re in the Pacific Northwest area in need some consultation or training for your pup, contact her through her website or send her an email.
