Original Special Operations Equipment – Misc. Review

At SHOT Show 2011, I met the gentleman behind Original Special Operations Equipment, John Willis.  I can’t say I’m a cordura whore, but I certainly do appreciate functional gear that are well made, with ingenuity and manufactured “in the Motherfucking USA.”  The company’s origins can be heard in an interview with John last year, but the bottom line is that they started with quality in mind, only to continue to meet that demand today.

Below, John describes a really cool shotgun rig.  Andrew, who now resides in California, talks about the Combat Cock.

Though I didn’t leave with a rig, I took home a tool bag, a wallet, and medium sized bag.

The tool bag is made out of 1000 Denier Cordura nylon and will hold anything you darn well please.  The inner side walls are lined in loop/Velcro to attach hook backed magazine pouches or organizers.  On both sizes of the exterior of the bag are zippered compartments and an open pocket.  The top can be inverted to have open access to the contents inside.  It’s been a perfect bag for quick trips to the shooting range, or for anything for that matter.  You get the same “bombproof” reliability that they’re known for.  Approximate dimensions are 12″ long, 7″ tall, and 5″ wide.

The wallet I have isn’t nearly as cool as the one listed in their site, but it has served a purpose.  Just think of it as a minimalist’s wallet.

This bag is for the miscellaneous tools I keep.

The equipment might be good, however it’s not easy to get anyone to reply to your inquires and if you spend money with this company do NOT expect to get it back. If an item is out of stock- and in stock items take the full 8-10 weeks (which is fine, that’s what is advertised) to arrive, the out of stock item is gifted. Yup, you get a gift card, no refunds. When you attempt to ask about this- no response. Not what I call a great company.

It’s 2015 and I stand by that SOE is an outstanding company. John has always promptly returned my emails – even non-business related. Maybe you can try contacting them on Facebook? https://www.facebook.com/SOEgear
