Though I never had a problem with regular foam plugs, or my Sordin headset, the Sonic Defenders are significantly more comfortable than the Peltor EAR Plugs; they’re easier to insert and do not feel like a giant’s little finger stuck in your ear. Significant positives about this set is the ability to hear conversations and perceived comfort- without the headgear.
If the folks at the indoor range aren’t shooting anything above a 44 magnum, I do OK with the SD, stoppers closed. Outdoor shooting – these are a dream. Coming back from Todd Green’s Shooting on the Move and Hit Fast, Aim Fast course this weekend, I realized my trusted Sordins sat in the range bag the entire weekend.
When these do fall apart (approximately six months, depending on use), I’ll simply force people to speak louder.
This set was given to me for free at SHOT Show 2011 from the Surefire booth, so yeah. I’m just cheap.
I have been using a pair of those for over a year now and they work great! I agree with your assessment, and think they’re the next best thing to good, powered headsets.
They’re affordable! I’ve tried the Peltor-type multi-rubbery earplugs and they just pop-out. I must have weird ears.
The SFs are affordable, but I have so many of these disposable ones that need to be used! haha.
