[sarcasm] He OODA’d that cell good. Given his credentials, he was fully capable of handling his firearm this stressful situation. [/sarcasm]
Ex-sheriff shoots his way out of a jam
COLUMBIA, Ky. – Shoot first, ask questions later.
That, apparently, is the motto of former Adair County Deputy Sheriff Charles Wright, who accidentally locked himself in a jail cell, suffered an attack of claustrophobia and saw no alternative but to try to shoot his way out.
“He has been compared to Barney Fife,” Columbia resident Amy Thompson told WKYT-TV.
But unlike Fife, Wright unfortunately was not restricted to one bullet in his shirt pocket.
Sheriff Ralph Curry told WKYT that no one was hurt when the deputy fired his weapon, but Wright has lost his job.
The one-man gun battle erupted Monday – which, sadly, happened to be the day a new $12.4 million county judicial center was proudly unveiled to the public after more than a year of construction.
Curry says Wright has agreed to pay for the damage he did to the cell.
