Drivin’ to Reno, NV

Picture 6

I’m very fortunate to have an employer with supervisors and supporting staff to allow me to partake on this wonderful gunny experience!  I leave Tuesday morning/mid-morning to Reno, NV and settle in before the big event hits at the Silver Legacy.  Instead of driving through ol’ I-80, I was contemplating on riding along the sceanic CA-16, CA-88 then North on US-395/I-580.  In exchange for double the drive time, I hope the sceanery will be worthwhile.

I’ve taken that route; very nice. Be sure the roads are all open, what with the wildfires in the area.

So far, the route appears clear. I was concerned about the conditions on I-80 with the fires in Auburn; however, it seems contained. Thanks for the confirmation on scenery! I plan on leaving early enough to allow frequent stops to take photos!

That’s a nice route! Another really great road is even smaller and a bit further south. Highway 4 goes over Carson Pass and around Lake Alpine, and has Ebbetts Pass and some other very scenic stuff before getting to Markleeville. That whole backcountry has some sick dirtbiking trails and actual abandoned roads with their own forgotten passes. They used to run a two-day dual-sport race called the Ridgerunner 500 that went from Angel’s Camp to Carson City and back all on trails and backroads, it was a lot of fun.
