Out of battery detonation..

Not so super - are we?

.22LR casings fired from a Model “1′ Sales dedicated upper with a 20” heavy barrel.  It’s not the gun – it’s the ammunition.  It reliably does not feed Winchester Super X ammunition.  Using Black Dog Industries 10 round magazines, the cartridge would make it inside the chamber, but would not be fully seated inside.  It continues to reliably feed Remington, Federal and CCI.

This seems to be a problem with all the AR15 22LR conversions and dedicated uppers. The AR15 trigger system has no timing mechanics to prevent the hammer from falling should the bolt not be fully closed. Most 22LR autoloaders (ie Marlin 60 hammer fired and Win 77 striker fired) will not let the weapon fire should the bolt be out of battery 1/16 of an inch. I have yet to find a 22LR pistol that does not have similar mechanics. The center fire AR15 BCG has timing mechinics built into it to prevent firing out of battery as the firing pin will not reach the primer until the bolt is locked. A simple firing pin lock needs to be designed for the 22LR AR15s so this cannot happen.
