.45 ACP Duds

Couldn’t sleep, so I decided to adjust my .45 ACP dies.  I played around with the expander and seater dies, getting them at the right spot.  I put to use what I learned from The ABCs of Reloading and experimented a little bit to experience what each adjustment does.

I was having bit of a hard time with the seater die since I didn’t realize that it was crimping the case WAY too much and using the wrong seater plug (round nose vs. semi-wad cutter). I ended up making some scrap lead and ruined some cases.  After a few more mistakes, I got some consistent results that I was pleased with.

I have an overall cartridge length of 1.254″ for the .45 ACP.  It’s a tad short, but it’s getting there. [I don’t know what I was thinking.  This ended up being an excellent length.  My seating die is now set at 1.252″.  Who wants to sell me a scale so I can get started? =)].  I’ll be checking the headspace on my Les Baer TRS – after I get some sleep.
