DirtCrashr inquired about a course that addresses gunshot wounds for GBR-V, 2010. I left a comment at Random Nuclear Strikes with some details, but DirthCrashr brought up a good idea. LMS Defense has instructors in Sparks, NV and likely able to accommodate those who are attending GBR next year.
This would be a great opportunity to visit Scheel’s again. I understand that Armed and Safe uses Scheel’s classroom facility to instruct the NV/UT/FL CCW course. I would imagine that I or LMS Defense could make those arrangements.
My only concern is the number of folks who are interested, especially because of the cost for a one day course. I can only speak for myself, but it is WORTH IT. I’ll have to talk to Mr. C to review what his plans are for next year.
Take a look at my after action report for more details.
Course information here.
This is all preliminary, however. I would like a general head count so I can approach John Chapman, owner and intructor at LMS Defense, with a number.

Eight hours is a pretty good chunk of Rendezvous-time, but probably a minimum-limit for actually getting something from it. It’s not something that anyone with any consideration can just wing-it.
I know from reading some medical-issues stuff in SWAT magazine, that first-responders train up to a certain level (or two) and medical professionals up to another one – and generally The Command needs to ensure that they don’t have people getting confused about capabilities or mis-assigned based on minimal training – but that’s different for us Civilians…
The write-up you did was really helpful. I’ll probably have to take such a class on my own.
Hey, you know I’ve been trying to take one of these since your review. They’ve still got my $200 deposit; I’ve just never been able to make the class (or Pistol I, for that matter) — life gets in the way.
You know the wife and I would both be up for it at GBR. We’d probably want to get a Red Cross refresher course under our belts first, right?
DirtCrashr: That was another concern, but I figured I would let the attendees and maybe let Mr. C complete his planning first to see if there will be room for another “magnet” event.
DavidWW: It’s been like… forever. I still have my $400 gift card for a class I have yet to use. Depending on the Red Cross course instructor, it may or may not make a difference. In my case, it wasn’t even necessary. The thing you get the most out of this course is the supervised scenarios.
I might be taking a “sort-of” class locally if I get on the Board of Directors of our HOA, I’m interested in having a disaster-plan that the HOA can get behind.
