My impressions of the Big Reno Gun Show

Not that great.  I must stop and give the show a break because I was only there for two things:  ammunition and gun powder.  Everything else was secondary to me and was only there for a few hours.  I’m sure Saturday and Sunday will be bumping quite a bit.

There was one rifle I was going to purchase; an old 1903 pump action .22 rimfire rifle.  Thank goodness for the gentleman who bought it before I did since I’m trying really hard to save up for a high quality glass on the Savage 10FP.  It was a nice piece though…

Otherwise, I was good and didn’t melt my credit card.  I only bought 124gr. 9mm reloaded cartridges to try out in the P7M8.  I couldn’t find gun powder.  I suppose that’s a good thing too.

I must note that it was more exciting visiting Cabala’s on the way home than the gun show itself.  I must be spoiled with the open market of the Internet.

  1. Howdy, Rat. I, too, have a 10FP. In .308. I put a Leupold LRT 8.5-25x on mine. It’s a brilliant optic, but if I had it to do over again I might look for something with a 10 or 12x max. My experience with the 25x is that it’s just too much mag for field use aside from bench-rest type work. YMMV.

  3. Is this show historically mostly used, mostly new, or all new and never any private sellers? I ask because you can often get good deals on used things, and with the current shortage that is national I cant imagine great deals on new things since supply is so short right now.

    • Most of the time, you generally see things used through FFLs who sign up for their booths. However, given my restrictions as a Kalifornian, I’m restricted to C&R firearms. I go to the gun shows for the ammo – at least that was my attitude then. I’m lucky to find anything online right now.
