I’ve decided to attend the 2008 Gun Blogger Rendezvous; an event organized by Mr. Completely. It’ll be held at Reno’s Circus Circus Hotel in Nevada from October 9th through the 12th. I’ll finally meet Phil and David from Random Nuclear Strikes, along with several other folks!

The Four Rules of Firearm Safety
Rule One -
All guns are always loaded.
Rule Two - Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
Rule Three - Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target.
Rule Four - Be sure of your target. Know what it is, what is in line with it, and what is behind it. Never shoot anything you have not positively identified.
*Follow all four rules at all times and accidents will never happen.

Excellent! I keep forgetting to follow through and get myself and my wife registered. This serves as another reminder.
Not to hijack the post, but I’m still thinking about a 1911 to use as a base for the Pachmayr Dominator “upper.” What’s your opinion of the Rock Island .45s? There are a couple for around $450 down here, which as a non-fan of 1911s, seems a decent price to me….

My opinion on the RI .45’s are that they are very solid. I’ve held a couple and everything seems to be put together very well. The trigger was crisp and had a decent feel in my hand. I never shot one however.
For $450 through a PTT, that’s not bad. You may want to shop around if you have a FFL that’s not going to charge an arm and leg for transfer fees.

Have you looked into building up a 80% frame?

Yup. Per Calguns, it’s illegal in CA unless you find someone who brought one with him when he moved into the state, and can convince him to do a private-party transfer. Not bloody likely.
And with a law license to lose, I’d rather pay the money for something that’s on the approved list than risk getting caught with a 80% frame I just “happened” to “find in the attic” or something like that.

That’s too bad as I was almost certain that there was something enabling owners to manufacture their own frames for personal purposes. Neglecting to review PC 12125 (unsafe handgun laws) is a bad thing - shame on me. Otherwise, thanks for the heads up.
